Tales & Tidings: A Festive 2024 Wrap-Up
It’s that time of year again! We’re all rushing to the finish line, hoping to get everything done so we can finally put our feet up by a warm fire, enjoy a cozy drink, reflect on the past year, and dream of what’s to come.
Before we tiptoe Grinch-style out of 2024, we have some fun news to share: Writer’s Block Solutions has welcomed a new member to our team—Mark Falk! Like most of our incredible team, Mark is someone we knew through personal connections. He rock climbs with Elise, who is temporarily away completing her degree. You can learn a little more about Mark and his many creative talents, including music, here.
We also celebrated Sky’s 3rd year with WBS—our 7th and counting for the company, and of course, the OGs (that would be Kyla and me). What can I say that I haven’t already said before? Creating content, editing professional documents and manuscripts, developing strategies, and consulting on communications for our clients is our greatest joy! Thanks for being a part of our story. Without you, we wouldn’t have anything to say. (Well, that’s not completely true with Kyla on the team).
Before we bid 2024 adieu, enjoy a mini Q&A with a few of our team members.
Val
What are your plans for the holidays?
“I’ll be traveling to the coast to celebrate Christmas with my family in Tsawwassen, where tradition includes gambling dimes over Rummoli, taking turns flipping records, and all-day pajama parties.”
What’s your favourite project from this year, or a professional milestone you achieved?
“This year, I had the pleasure of writing a piece for the inaugural issue of Kootenay Women in Business that highlights the importance of supporting local food, particularly by visiting your local market. It’s always fun to flex my journalistic skills with the occasional magazine feature! On a related note, I’ve been enjoying crafting articles for the City of Trail, showcasing leadership and the exciting projects underway geared for province-wide distribution.”
What does next year have in store?
“Next year promises to bring change—according to my whimsical animal-style tarot cards, which practically burst into flames during my reading! Crystal balls and card readings aside, I’m focusing on personal development, with a renewed commitment to my health and wellness. Being an entrepreneur while raising children is a constant juggle, but it’s also an incredibly rewarding adventure.”

What are your plans for the holidays?
“My holiday season always starts with a traditional Italian fish feast (thankfully it’s usually much less explosive than that famous second season episode of The Bear) on Christmas Eve. Then we’re off to Ontario cottage country to celebrate with family over a toasty fire, competitive board games, and way too much cheese.”
What’s your favourite project from this year, or a professional milestone you achieved?
“I worked on so many fun projects this year, it’s tough to choose a favourite! But because I love to travel, I really enjoyed working with the two lovely ladies of Open Doors Travel on a communications strategy.”
What does next year have in store?
“Hopefully plenty of writing and reading for both business and fun. I’m ready to take my introverted, nerdy nature to the next level!”
Kyla
What are your plans for the holidays?
“Continuing my perpetual tendency to do ALL THE THINGS, including: dress up in costumes for photos with Santa, get the niblings gifts their parents will curse me for, enjoy some cabin activities like lake skating and ice fishing, and spend a ton of time with friends and family, stuffing our faces and laughing until our guts explode. Festive, no?”
What’s your favourite project from this year, or a professional milestone you achieved?
“Ooh, lots of favourites. For one, I’m thrilled to be continuing our relationship supporting and marketing the RBC JCC Sports Dinner for the second year and working towards making the 2025 event even more successful!”
What does next year have in store?
“I really have no idea…low-level chaos abounds. But that’s definitely part of the fun for me!”
